After more than a decade of patiently waiting, my fellow 13 Going on 30 diehards have reason to rejoice. Today, Deadline has the exclusive that all of our steadfast prayers have at last been answered, and that a stage musical adaptation of the 2004 Jennifer Garner vehicle is headed to Broadway. With a script from original screenwriters Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa and music and lyrics from Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner (the minds behind the recent First Date), the story of Jenna Rink’s magical transformation into herself after the fun part of her life is over will be reborn.

In the timeless romantic comedy, a young Jenna is whisked into her relatively-distant future by an enchanted doll house’s pixie dust (just roll with it), and is delighted to find that she enjoys a high-power position at a posh fashion mag and gets to play meet-cute with Mark Ruffalo. There’s drama, Mark Ruffalo, sketchy mechanics of time travel — the only thing missing from this otherwise perfect film are toe-tapping showtunes, and now that’s been rectified. Director/producer Andy Fickman says of the project, “[it] has all the elements of a great musical: comedy, romance an empowering message — and a touch of magic.” Fickman, former director of such successful screen-to-stage translations as Heathers: the Musical and Reefer Madness: the Musical, also has plenty of screen credits to his name. Most recently, he directed Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. Take that as you will.

Though a timeline has not yet been set, rest assured that this will mark a major event on the Great White Way. Movie adaptations have been box-office gold for theatrical productions as of late — the School of Rock musical has been dominating in ticket sales for months, and scored loads of Tony nominations. It's only a matter of time until 13 Going on 30 gets its day.
