The tax that has been in operation to pay for the Scharbauer Sports Complex will have a new purpose after the sports complex is paid off, if Midland voters agree to keep it.

According to NewsWest 9, the tax will be done in May when the sports complex is paid off, but Mayor Jerry Morales hopes voters choose to keep the tax to be used for roads and improving parks in the area.

The mayor also stressed this is not a new tax but an existing tax that has been in operation since 2002.

The money would be used to build and improve roads such as Tradewinds, Briarwood, Fairgrounds, Mockingbird, and the Wadley extension.

It will also be used to help improve different parks in the area especially those used for little league tournaments.

The tax is 25 cents on every 100 dollars spent in Midland, that is 1/4 of one cent per dollar.
