Update: Lady Gaga has responded to Carney's diss, as have "Perfect Illusion" producers Mark Ronson and BloodPop.

"I also remember my good friend Patrick Carney sitting in my living room, hearing uptown funk and telling me it wouldn't work," Ronson tweeted, while quoting an announcement of "Uptown Funk"'s new diamond single RIAA certification.

"He's not as snarky as I would be watching him in a guitar death-match w Kevin Parker and Josh F---ing Homme," Gaga replied, referring to the respective frontmen of Tame Impala and Queens of the Stone Age, both of whom worked on Joanne.

Bloodpop may win shadiest response though, taking a move out of Mariah Carey's playbook. As for Carney, the drummer tweeted that Lady Gaga and Mark Ronson should "lighten up."

Original post: Patrick Carney, drummer for the Black Keys, once angered Beliebers with his Justin Bieber trolling — but maybe he should prepare for the wrath of Little Monsters.

On Tuesday (October 18), HBO's new VICE News Tonight rolled out what will evidently be a recurring feature called "Patrick Carney's High Standards Music Corner." Vice's thinking behind this concept is easy to understand; while Carney hasn't quite met the "get off my lawn!" status of fellow straight-white-male rock curmudgeons like Oasis' Noel "I somehow even hate Adele" Gallagher or Slipknot's Corey Taylor, he's certainly generated enough trash-talk sound bites to prove himself a fecund source of negative opinions on pop. And sound bites, as we all know, equal clicks.

In the inaugural segment, Vice played Carney new music from OneRepublic, Norah Jones and Lady Gaga. While OneRepublic's "Kids" was met with Carney's mild-if-shady approval ("I wouldn't buy it, but I wouldn’t mind if it came on in Abercrombie & Fitch...so embarrassed I liked OneRepublic") as did Norah Jones' latest ("I once compared her music to the theme from Frasier..I like this"), Gaga's lead Joanne single? Not so much.

"First of all, I hate guitars that sound like that. I'm lost, because the guitar at the top of it sounds so sh---y," Carney says, before playing exaggerated air guitar and making a smells-bad face. "It's like 'Eye Of The Tiger' but not even nearly as good as that! It sounds like Hulk Hogan is playing the f---ing guitar."

But after a brief side anecdote about the time he talked guitars with the actual Hulk Hogan, Carney admits "Perfect Illusion" is a grower (certain PopCrush editors took a minute to warm up to it as well, to be honest).

"It's growing on me, I've heard it now. This is the thing about music — the more you hear it, the more you like it," Carney says. "That's why Payola worked."

Watch Carney weigh in above, and enjoy future segments of "Patrick Carney's High Standards Music Corner" while we all quietly wait for mainstream rock to regain popularity as an exciting and relevant genre.

Meanwhile, on October 18, Lady Gaga responded to another public criticism of "Perfect Illusion from "Closer" duo The Chainsmokers after group member Alex Pall told Rolling Stone that the track "sucks."
