Early voting began Wednesday in Midland with a new school tax increase to be decided by voters.

According to NewsWest 9, new voter ID laws also began Wednesday with the beginning of early voting.

The first list of acceptable identification is as follows:

  • Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate
  • United States passport
  • Texas personal identification card
  • Texas license to carry a handgun
  • United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph
  • United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph

The second list of acceptable identification is as follows:

  • Valid voter registration certificate
  • Certified birth certificate
  • Current utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Government check
  • Paycheck
  • Government document with your name and an address (original required if it contains a photograph)

The last day to register to vote for the general election in November is October 11.
