Ladies and gentlemen, the Cold War lives on! FX's buzz-worthy new drama 'The Americans' may have had some shaky ratings here and there across its first four episodes, but FX has officially decided to renew the conflict for season 2. The Matthew Rhys/Keri Russell drama will continue on for a full 13-episode second season, but will anything change along the way? Find out the future of FX's 'The Americans' inside!

Whether or not viewers have begun to check out FX's new hit drama 'The Americans,' the network has allotted plenty of time to catch up. Only four episodes into its inaugural season, 'The Americans' has been officially renewed for a second season to consist of 13 episodes, presumably airing in early 2014.

“'The Americans' has quickly established itself as a key part FX’s acclaimed drama line-up,” said FX President John Landgraf. “Executive Producers Joe Weisberg, Joel Fields and Graham Yost and their collaborators are telling riveting and deeply emotional stories and the performances of Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, Noah Emmerich and the entire cast are simply outstanding. The show is truly worthy of its widespread critical acclaim and we are confident that its quality will continue to yield a robust and passionate audience.”

Set in 1981 Washington DC, ‘The Americans’ follows Elizabeth Jennings (Russell), one half of a KGB-arranged marriage whose relationship with her husband Philip (Rhys) becomes increasingly tested by the Cold War’s escalation, the associations they maintain with a network of spies and informants, as well as their new FBI agent neighbor Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich). Along the way, Elizabeth and Philip find their fake relationship growing more passionate and genuine on a daily basis. ‘The Americans’ also includes a hefty guest turn from ‘Justified’ Emmy winner Margo Martindale.

Viewers can also catch up on the series when FX airs the first five episodes back-to-back on Friday, March 1, but what say you? Are you happy to hear 'The Americans' will be continuing the Cold War through season 2?
