Universal’s plans to reboot their classic monsters into a shared franchise universe are certainly ambitious, to say the least. In addition to casting Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe in The Mummy, the studio has Johnny Depp lined up for The Invisible Man, and there have been talks of getting Dwayne Johnson for The Wolf Man and Angelina Jolie for Bride of Frankenstein. You can add another great actor to that list, as Javier Bardem is reportedly in talks to play Frankenstein’s monster in Universal’s reboot of Frankenstein.

The Wrap reports that the Oscar-winning star of No Country For Old Men is in talks to play the monster in Universal’s next classic monster reboot. Bardem is certainly a good fit with his distinctive voice, height and acting range — he’s definitely not the first actor you’d think of to play Frankenstein’s monster, but when you do, it just makes sense.

Universal has yet to announce the director or writer of the Frankenstein reboot, which is being produced by monster universe architects Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan. They’ve been working with a writers room that includes Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski, Men in Black writer Ed Solomon and Fargo TV series creator Noah Hawley.

The studio is launching their new shared universe with The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise as the protagonist, Kingsman breakout Sofia Boutella as the titular baddie, and Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll / Mr. Hyde. Kurtzman is directing that reboot, which also stars Annabelle Wallis, Courtney B. Vance and Jake Johnson, and hits theaters next June.

Universal is additionally planning reboots based on The Wolf Man (scripted by Guzikowski), The Invisible Man (starring Johnny Depp in the role he was born to play as a floating collection of accessories) and The Bride of Frankenstein. Last we heard, Universal is eyeing Angelina Jolie to direct and star in that film.
