Lady Gaga supplied what was easily the most emotionally charged performance of the night with her rendition of "Til It Happens To You" at the 88th annual Academy Awards this evening (February 28).

Prior to the performance, the talented singer, who has already had an incredible public resurgence this year, was introduced to the stage by Vice President Joe Biden, who urged viewers to take a stand in changing the culture of sexual abuse by visiting ItsOnUs.org.

While singing at a piano, Gaga was later joined onstage by dozens of survivors of abuse. The brave individuals who joined Gaga onstage stretched out their hands to one side, revealing messages written on their arms like "It's not your fault" and "Survivor," which made for an incredibly impactful and poignant statement.

The Diane Warren co-penned song is the theme of The Hunting Ground, a documentary about sexual abuse across college campuses.

The song was nominated for Best Original Song alongside The Weeknd's "Earned It," Sam Smith's "The Writing's On The Wall," J. Ralph and Antony Hegarty's "Manta Ray" and David Lang's "Simple Song #3." Sam Smith later won the Oscar during the ceremony.

Kesha, who's been making headlines all month for her ongoing legal battle with Dr. Luke, tweeted her approval of the performance, sending a special message of appreciation to both Gaga and Biden after the show:
