Matchbox Twenty Perform ‘She’s So Mean’ on ‘Ellen’
Matchbox Twenty played their rocking single ‘She’s So Mean’ on ‘Ellen’ today, breaking out multiple drum kits to provide the hand-clapping beat on the lead single from their No. 1 album ‘North.’
The performance was similar in style to the band’s appearance last month on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman,’ although frontman Rob Thomas seemed dead-serious this time. Hopefully Thomas was just getting into character, because he didn’t crack a smile, even when Ellen greeted him after the song.
Ellen’s crowd sure got into it, clapping along as Thomas sang about the type of dangerous girl that guys can’t live with and can’t live without. Thomas has described the subject of the song as “the wrong kind of girls that we’ve probably all dated.”
‘North’ debuted at No. 1 with 95,000 copies sold, becoming Matchbox Twenty’s first chart-topping effort. It was their fourth studio album overall and first since 2002’s ‘More Than You Think You Are.’ ‘She’s So Mean’ reached the Top 10 on the Adult Pop Songs chart, and the group has also released a video for the new song ‘Overjoyed.’
