I told you a few weeks back about a proposed interstate highway from Midland to San Angelo and Austin, well now there is information about another interstate intersecting in Midland.

According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, talk is back on after discussing a proposal to make Interstate 14 happen from Midland to San Angelo, for Interstate 27 to come down from Lubbock and intersect with I-20 in Midland.

James Beauchamp, president of the Midland-Odessa Transportation Alliance has said that a study from 1993 to 1997 was conducted to include three possible southern routes for Interstate 27.  “For the southern routes, one went from Lubbock to Post to Snyder, down to Roscoe on I-20; one came down U.S. Highway 87 to SH 349 to Midland; and then the other one was US 87 on down to Big Spring.”

Now with the proposal for Interstate 14 traveling east out of Midland and eventually ending up at the Louisiana border, the thoughts of having Interstate 27 come down thru Lubbock to Midland are back on.

So sometime in the future Midland may be the connecting hub of three interstate highways.
