Moon Landing Anniversary ‘True or False’ Quiz

Today marks the 46th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moonwalk and to commemorate it, we compiled a list of 'true or false' questions to see how much you know about the biggest event of the 20th century.

Here are your true or false questions about the first moon landing 46 years ago today:

1.  Neil Armstrong claimed he actually said, "That's one small step for A man."

Yes:  It's just hard to tell there's an "A" between the words "for" and "man."  Plus, it doesn't really make sense without the "A", because the word "man" all by itself means the same as "mankind".  (Listen to the audio here.)

2.  Neil Armstrong and Buzz Alrdrin are the two Apollo 11 astronauts everyone knows.  The third was a guy named Tom Collins.

FALSE:  A Tom Collins is a cocktail. The astronaut was MICHAEL Collins.  He orbited the moon in the command module while Neil and Buzz went down to the surface.

3.  Neil paid $50,000 for a $10 million insurance policy before the mission.

FALSE: He couldn't afford insurance, so he and the other two astronauts signed a bunch of autographs for their families.  They knew if they died, they'd be worth a lot of money.

4.  All three astronauts had issues with excessive FLATULENCE during the trip.

TRUE:  Apollo 11's hydrogen gas filters didn't work, so all their drinking water had hydrogen bubbles in it.  That's what caused the smell.  Collins said in his autobiography that it was like a, quote, "mixture of wet dog and marsh gas."

5.  Richard Nixon's speechwriter wanted to write a speech in case the astronauts died, but Nixon wouldn't let him.

FALSE: He DID write a speech. The opening line was, "Fate has ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace."
