When I first began watching this video of Fred Rogers interacting with a young Jeff Erlanger, I knew I would be moved by the message. What I didn't expect was how much.

Grab a tissue for this video. You'll be reaching for it shortly. Fred Rogers is a man who I grew watching on television, like many children in my generation on Public Broadcasting. From what I remember he always broke the fourth wall speaking directly into my living room and inviting and other viewers like me to be his neighbor.

His invitational manner and direct and pleasant approach to others on the show were a great example to me as child on how to treat other people. When he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, he was greeted by a former guest from his show that was just a child when he appeared in Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.

It's clear when watching Rogers interact with Erlanger as a child that he cared for children, and his goal was to help not Jeff feel accepted, but other children who might be going through the same things.

Years later when Jeff greets him on stage, Rogers greeted him with enthusiasm and then shared a heartfelt message of kindness with the academy.

"Fame is a four letter world, and like tape or zoom or face or pain or life or love what ultimately matters is what we do with it. I feel that those of in television are chosen be to be servants."
