Long before Ricky Gervais made people uncomfortable at awards shows, Norm MacDonald was mastering the art.

Back in 1998, MacDonald hosted the sixth ESPY Awards and he left no prisoners with his biting opening monologue, in which he went after everyone from Hideki Irabu and Jerry Jones to the Denver Nuggets and Michael Jordan.

And his joke at the end about O.J. is cringe-worthy, as you can see by Ken Griffey Jr.'s disapproving reaction.

It's pretty cool to watch this so many years later, as MacDonald poked fun at long-forgotten stars and some who are still players in the sports universe. He simply didn't care who he attacked, so give him credit for his bravery.

Perhaps not surprisingly, though, MacDonald never hosted the show again.
