Considering we still mark years with four digits, more rumors of a 'Firefly' reunion have begun to spill out, though not as we've previously heard them. This past weekend, the cast reunited at New York Comic-Con 2012 for another 10-year reunion panel much as it had in San Diego, but this time a speck of new data escaped out into the 'verse: could the possibility of an actual reunion be in play as an animated series? According to one cast members, the idea has come farther than you might think...

Sure, 'Arrested Development' might have worked out in the end, but true nerds will never be satisfied it seems, until 'Firefly' officially comes back from the dead. Some 10 years later, with all of the cast having moved on to much more prominent projects, a true 'Firefly' reunion seems all but dead in the black. That is of course, until this past weekened when we learned about the possibility of an animated series! Slim possibility, mind you.

Via Bleedingcool, we learned that during the 'Firefly' reunion panel series star Nathan Fillion put forth a little tease to the audience, saying, "if we’re dreaming, tell me what you think about this: Firefly the animated series!" While seemingly innocent, the New York Post caught up with actor Sean Maher afterward, who clarified that Fillion's words weren't simply speculation.

I know somebody who is actually trying to get that done, who has approached Joss about it. He used to work with Guillermo del Toro.

Of course, that could mean any number of things or people, so hopefully additional details will come forth as the story develops. 'Firefly' fans, do you think the series has any chance of returning in animated form, or after 10 years is it time to let go?
