The Odessa Police Department is raising funds to help out their most valuable but most helpless officers in their department, the dogs of the K-9 Unit.

According to NewsWest 9, the dogs of the K-9 Unit of the OPD are just as important as their human officers in charge of them.

But those dogs, even being officers, have never been equipped with bullet-proof vests like their human police handlers.

OPD is going to change that and raise funds to equip the K-9 officers within their unit with bullet Proof vests.

They are hoping to raise $5000 for the vests and to upgrade training as well.

If you want to help out, you can donate during the Bustin' For Badges event in April.
