Ronald Reagan Was Born On This Date: February 6, 1911 – [VIDEO]
Today we remember one of the greatest Presidents in the history of these United States, Ronald R. Reagan.
Ronald Wilson Reagan was born on this date February 6, 1911. (The same year my favorite gun was born!) Before he became the 40th POTUS, he was a famous radio/screen actor and Governor of California.
Reagan was educated at Eureka College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree ineconomics and sociology. After graduating, Reagan moved first to Iowa to work as a radio broadcaster and then, in 1937, to Los Angeles where he began a career as an actor, first in films and later television. Some of his most notable films include Knute Rockne, All American (1940), Kings Row (1942), and Bedtime for Bonzo (1951). Reagan served as President of the Screen Actors Guild and later as a spokesman for General Electric (GE); his start in politics occurred during his work for GE. Originally a member of the Democratic Party, his positions began shifting rightward in the 1950s, and he switched to the Republican Party in 1962. – Wikipedia
When people talk about Reagan and his style, invariably it was his ability to eloquently make his point that most people remember. So much so, that garnered him the title of ‘The Great Communicator’.
Reagan is probably the most well known Republican President in history, but Reagan began his political career as a Democrat and, in December 1945, was prevented from leading an anti-nuclear rally in Hollywood by pressure from Warner Bros. Studio.
One of his most famous speeches took place at the Brandenburg Gate in West Berlin, Germany on June 12, 1987. It is known as the speech where he made a challenge to Mikhail Gorbachev, ”Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!’
Reviews on the speech were lukewarm until in 1989, the Berlin Wall was demolished, and today is remembered, in the words of the German newspaper Bild, as a speech that “changed the world.”
