Taika Waititi didn’t have footage to show from Thor: Ragnarok during Marvel’s Comic-Con panel a couple of weeks ago (though he did show a delightful short film) — you know, since he’s only been filming the sequel for about a month. So it might seem a little surprising that Mark Ruffalo has already wrapped his part in the upcoming film, which sees the Hulk teaming up with Thor for what the actor has described as a buddy road movie. Is Ruffalo’s part smaller than we thought?

Probably not. Ruffalo shared this photo on Instagram, in which he poses with Waititi and reveals that he’s already completed filming on Thor: Ragnarok:

Given that a large portion of Ruffalo’s performance is motion-captured, it makes sense that he might not be on set as much as his co-stars. We know that Ragnarok borrows some elements from the Planet Hulk storyline (notably the armor, which Marvel revealed at Comic-Con), and rumors have repeatedly indicated that we’ll probably be seeing a whole lot more of Hulk — and not so much of his human counterpart, Bruce Banner.

The majority of the Hulk’s performance can be created without Ruffalo, since it requires a hefty amount of CGI. So unless Ruffalo has been taking VFX classes in his free time, there’s probably not much of a reason to keep him around until it’s time for reshoots.

Thor: Ragnarok also stars Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster and Karl Urban as Skurge, with Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins reprising their roles from previous films. The new sequel hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
