Netflix has been reasonably quiet on the subject of Sense8 Season 2, even after the departure of star Aml Ameen, and the likely plan to debut a Christmas special, followed by a 2017 premiere. Now star Jamie Clayton provides new details of the season, including both Aml’s exit, and the departure of Wachowski sibling Lilly, leaving Lana in a solo position for the first time.

Clayton spoke to BuzzFeed of the worldwide drama’s second season, in particular revealing that Lilly Wachowski would largely sit out the second season’s direction, having left to “focus on her well-being” after coming out as transgender. Lilly would likely return for a prospective third season, though Clayton testified to Lana’s efforts in her abscence:

Lana is absolutely a superwoman. The way she channels her energy and her creativity … it keeps me in absolute awe whenever I’m in her presence. She’s an absolute force.

Clayton also clarified a bit of the situation surrounding actor Aml Ameen (Capheus)’s departure and subsequent replacement with Toby Onwemere, specifically suggestions that the actor expressed any kind of transgender bigotry toward Lana Wachowski:

I knew the fans would be concerned, but I wanted them to know that we were OK. It’s just a case of, creatively, two people having a really different idea of what they want to do. […]

[The Wachowskis] wanted to bring people in from the beginning who were going to honor the stories we were going to be telling, who would be respectful of the material, who wouldn’t have any limitations as far as the material was concerned, who were happy, outgoing, fun, all-around positive people, because we would be a big traveling circus.

For those unfamiliar, Sense8 follows eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally. Its cast includes Daryl Hannah, LOST star Naveen Andrews, Brian J. Smith (Stargate: Universe), Tuppence Middleton (Jupiter Ascending), Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who), Indian actress Tena Desae, South Korean actress Doona Bae, German actor Max Riemelt, Mexican actors Alfonso Herrera and Erendira Ibarra as well as Jamie Clayton, Miguel Silvestre and Terrence Mann.

Netflix may come forth with more formal Sense8 Season 2 announcements soon, but should we expect any major changes beyond Lilly Wachowski and Ameen?
