America has always liked it’s booze, but few people realize the real impact alcohol has had on America’s history. For example, did you know that the greatest threat to the new Republic under Washington’s administration was a tax on whiskey? It was known as the Whiskey Rebellion. Many of the colonists made a good penny by selling fermented spirits such as whiskey and they resented the taxation on their favorite libations.

The Discovery Channel has put together a new program called How Booze Built America, documenting how alcohol shaped America’s history. It’s hosted by Mike Rowe, best-known as hosting the show Dirty Jobs.
