Tracking movie trailer views can’t be an easy task, as you have to somehow combine everything from TV views to YouTube views to all-kinds-of-other-places views and calculate some sort of number from all of that. Previously, the record has been held by The Force Awakens, which was dethroned by Fifty Shades Darker earlier this fall, which was then whipped by the live-action Beauty and the Beast trailer (probably the most anticipated live-action Disney movie ever). Now, The Fate of the Furious is king, with 139 million views in its first 24 hours, more than 10 million more than Beauty and the Beast.

Universal took absolutely no chances with this debut. First, the Fast & Furious Twitter account rolled out a 15-second teaser on Sunday that announced the trailer drop later that day. Then, according to Deadline, the Fast Fam took over Times Square that night for the trailer’s debut, playing it simultaneously on 33 digital billboards, which must have been something akin to a religious experience for people who unabashedly love the franchise (me). Universal also played the trailer right before NBC’s pre-show that preceded the New York Giants-Dallas Cowboys football game — which, serendipitously, turned out to be the most-watched prime-time NFL game of the season. And then there are YouTube and Facebook views, coupled with outlets that posted duplicates of the trailer on their own third-party channels.

It all racks up a number the Fam should be quite proud of. And it’s a great trailer. There’s a submarine. There’s a Jaws reference. The Rock says “I WILL BEAT YOU LIKE A CHEROKEE DRUM.” I watched it five times in a row. You’re welcome, Universal. And this is even more appropriate, because guess which movie held the top spot before The Force Awakens pew-pewed it into oblivion? Furious 7.

The Fate of the Furious zooms into theaters April 14, 2017.
