Guess who turns 40 today? No, it's not Michael Douglas.

40 years ago today, an engineer with Motorola made the first successful phone call with the first portable, hand-held cell phone. Incidentally, the call was made by Motorola engineer Marty Cooper who rang Joel Engel, then the head of rival research department Bell Labs to tell him that he was making the call with the said phone.

Coincidentally, this is also the anniversary of the first Pony Express ride in 1860.
