A top Texas official says it is very possible wastewater injected into wells can cause earthquakes here in West Texas like the ones we are hearing about in Oklahoma.

According to NewsWest 9, Texas Railroad Commissioner Ryan Sitton states "the science is clear that it is physically possible for injection wells" to "cause earthquakes in certain rare cases, given the right set of conditions."

He also states that injection wells are often confused with fracturing wells.

Neighboring Oklahoma has shut down dozens of disposal wells because they were near a newly discovered fault line.
