Steve McQueen won an Oscar for 12 Years a Slave, 2013’s Best Picture, and then he pretty much vanished. He’s done a couple little things here and there, but it’s now 2016 and he’s had no significant follow-up. That project finally seems to be materializing, as Variety reports that McQueen is working on a film called Widows and he’s lined up an Oscar nominee as one of his big stars: Viola Davis, she of Suicide Squad and How to Get Away With Murder and the upcoming Fences, which looks like it could be an Academy Award contender as well.

And what, pray tell, is Widows about? Well here:

Based on the 1983 British miniseries about a caper gone wrong, the story follows four armed robbers who get killed in a failed heist attempt, leaving their widows to finish the job.

Oh yes. That’s a very good premise. I also like McQueen writing the screenplay with Gillian Flynn, the Gone Girl novelist who later adapted her book to the screen for director David Fincher. And Davis should be great in this. It’s the makings of a dream team.

Between Widows and the all-female Ocean’s 11 reboot sequel thingie, we are rapidly approaching a world in which female heist movies are a full-on trend in Hollywood. Which sounds awesome. Let’s now spend the next couple weeks fan-casting the three other women who will play the widows. I want Daisy Ridley, Zoe Saldana, and Helen Mirren. Look, if you’re gonna fan-cast, fan-cast big.
